Redskins’ Fletcher: ‘Stop posturing … get HGH testing done’

One of the hottest topics during Super Bowl was the delay in HGH testing two seasons after it was agreed by the NFL and the Players Association in the latest collective bargaining agreement.

With Major League Baseball and other leagues passing the NFL in implementing such testing, the issue was back in the news last week when two congressmen asked NFLPA executive director DeMaurice Smith for all correspondence in regards to the subject with the NFL. And Commissioner Roger Goodell said he hoped to have it in place by next season despite delays by Smith and the NFLPA.

On Sunday, one of the NFLPA’s more vocal members told the union to approve the testing, according to the Washington Post.

“I’ve got a message for my union: Stop the posturing and get the HGH testing done,” Fletcher said. “It’s time to get it done. You know, I think it’s more prevalent in our league than you would think. There’s probably more than 10 percent of guys taking HGH. And we have to get it out.

“As a player who’s (been in the league) for 15 years and has done it the right way, I want a good, clean game,” he continued. “I want a level playing surface. I don’t want to have all this posturing and ‘Oh, well, can we trust the credibility of this guy, this test?’ and all that. Stop the madness and let’s get the test done.”

Neither the NFL nor the NFLPA have reacted to Fletcher’s comments.
