NFL hosts PLAY 60 event at New Orleans’ Fifth Ward Junior High

As part of NFL PLAY 60, the league’s youth health and fitness campaign, NFL players visited Fifth Ward Junior High School on Tuesday for a special fitness activity.

New Orleans native and former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Kordell Stewart and several New Orleans Saints players took part in the NFL PLAY 60 Challenge, which is the primary in-school curriculum for NFL PLAY 60.

More than 150 fourth-, fifth- and sixth-graders at Fifth Ward Junior High took part in the Challenge, a Super Bowl program that teaches students the importance of getting 60 minutes of daily physical activity.

In the months leading up to Super Bowl week, more than 16,000 fourth-, fifth- and sixth-graders from the New Orleans area participated in the Challenge.

Also, Fifth Ward Junior High received a $2,500 NFL PLAY 60 grant to be used toward the purchase of health and fitness equipment. Riverside Elementary in Pearl River, La., and Clearwood Jr. High in Slidell, La., also received $2,500 grants for their exceptional participation in the NFL PLAY 60 Challenge.
